Deadline control

CMS WISeR timelines

Build from dates in current official instructions and notices. Never convert a general example into a promised deadline.

Reviewed July 24, 2026 • CMS Provider and Supplier Guide v7.0, updated July 24, 2026

CMS and the assigned official participant control timelines and status. WISeRly is independent, not CMS-affiliated or endorsed, not an official WISeR participant, does not issue determinations, and does not guarantee authorization, payment, or processing time.

Build a defensible timeline

Anchor

Record source, version, official notice date, receipt date/time, and the exact stated deadline with time zone.

Sequence

Track preparation, authorized submission, receipt confirmation, information requests, responses, official status, service, and claim milestones separately.

Escalate

Assign owners and escalation thresholds before a deadline. Ask the official participant to resolve ambiguity; do not guess.

Common timeline errors

  • Using the preparation-start date as the official receipt date.
  • Assuming an expedited route without meeting and documenting official conditions.
  • Counting calendar versus business days incorrectly.
  • Ignoring a participant request because a separate internal status says “ready.”
  • Scheduling from an expected result instead of the actual official notice.
AI assistance can extract dates or flag conflicts, but a human must verify every official deadline and clinical determination. WISeRly cannot obtain status from CMS or a participant.
